Time on the trails is an incredible way for you and your dog to experience all the budding warmth and burgeoning life spring has to offer. Central Massachusetts boasts numerous dog-friendly hiking trails perfect for such outings. From the Upper Charles Rail Trail that runs through much of the Daily Leash service area, to Ashland and Hopkinton State Parks, and even the more challenging terrain at Rocky Narrows in Sherborn, there’s a trail out there for everyone – all ages and skill levels, to explore. For more detailed information on these trails and others, as well as some site-specific pro-tips from our walkers, check out our blog post, Tails on Trails: Unleashing the Best Dog-Friendly Local Hiking.
Attend a WooSox Tail Waggin’ Tuesday Game
Baseball and a ballpark frank go hand in hand, but what about your living, breathing hot dog? Baseball fans can enjoy a game with their pup at Polar Park in Worcester during the Worcester Red Sox’s Tail Waggin’ Tuesday events. Most Tuesday home games in 2025 are dog-friendly, allowing fans to bring their leashed dogs to the ballpark to enjoy a game. Fun promotions, like Taco and Tequila specials, add to the festivities. Visit the Worcester Red Sox website for more information and to buy your tickets ahead of time.
Take Your Furry First Mate on the Dog Days of Summer Boston Harbor Cruise
Take to the water and experience Boston Harbor with your favorite furry friend as first mate on the Dog Days of Summer Cruise by Mass Bay Lines. Featured on Good Morning America, this dog-friendly cruise offers scenic views of the city, including landmarks like the USS Constitution, the Fish Pier, and Logan Airport. Plan a Picnic with Your Pup at the deCordova Sculpture Park or The New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill
One simple and fun way to share the spring season with your dog is with a picnic! If hiking isn’t your thing, but you and your pup still want to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, consider planning a relaxing picnic with your pooch at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln or the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in Boyleston. Both locations welcome well-behaved leashed dogs in their outdoor areas. The deCordova offers expansive grounds with contemporary sculptures. The New England Botanic Garden features beautiful gardens and trails, often showcasing temporary art installations. Please note that dogs are not allowed indoors at either location, and specific guidelines apply, such as one dog per person at the Botanic Garden. Visit the New England Botanic Garden website and the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum website for more information. Or, if there’s another spot you love, share it below in the comments and maybe someone else will enjoy it as much as you and your dog do.
Rent a Private Dog Park via Sniffspot
For a more private experience, consider renting a dog park through Sniffspot. This platform allows you to rent private, off-leash areas for your dog to play safely. You might even want to invite a doggy friend or two to enjoy the opportunity for new scents and play with your pup. Options in and around the Daily Leash service area include fully fenced yards, trails, and even agility courses and pools. It’s an excellent way to let your dog exercise and explore safely and securely without the crowds. Visit the Sniffspot website for more details and to find a Sniffspot rental near you.
Create a Dog-Friendly Garden Together
Spring is the perfect time to start a garden, and with some planning, it can be a safe and enjoyable spot for your dog too. Choose non-toxic pants like lavender, marigolds, and snapdragons. Avoid harmful plants such as lilies or daffodils. Incorporate features like shaded areas, water sources, and designated digging zones to keep your dog entertained and safe. And if you’re planting vegetables, include a few that are safe and yummy for your pup, like green beans, carrots, and zucchini. Raised beds and short fences can protect delicate plants while allowing your dog to explore and share the beauty of nature in your backyard.
