My Furry Valentine: 5 Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day with Your Pets

Two white cats and a grey poodle sit beside a tan and white corgi holding a rose in its mouth, set against a pink background with red hearts. Playful and cute mood.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for celebrating human affection, it’s the “pawfect” opportunity to show appreciation for the four-legged friends whose wet noses and sloppy kisses brighten our days. For many of us, our love for our animals is as strong, if not stronger, as what we feel for the people in our lives. Our pets offer us unconditional love year-round and their mere presence in our lives has been shown to improve our health, so why not return the favor with some extra special pampering this February 14th? Here are five of our favorite ways to share the love and make Valentine’s Day extra special for your dog or cat.

1. Get Them a Gift

Everyone loves gifts, our pets are no exception. Swap out the traditional human favorites of chocolate and roses for some tasty dog or cat treats and a new toy and your furry love is sure to make heart eyes at you. Your dog or cat may not understand the reason behind your gift-giving, but they will no doubt love it and love that it came from you!

2. Take Time to do What they Love

The hustle and bustle of everyday life often means we don’t take the extra time to play on the floor with our pets or try a new route on our walks. Show your pet some love this weekend by setting aside time to do what they love most. Whether it’s a nice long sniffy walk around the neighborhood, a hike in a local state park, some added time at the dog park, or even playing in the backyard or on the living room floor, spending time being active with your pets is an incredible way to increase your bond and show them how much you care!

3. Share the Love with a Shopping Spree

When scheduling one-on-one time with your favorite furball this weekend, consider taking a trip to your local pet store for a mini shopping spree. Isles are often set up at snout level for the ultimate canine shopping experience. Your pup will love sniffing around and picking out a toy (or two, or three) for themselves to take home to play with. And while you’re at it, grab a couple of extra toys or treats to donate to a local shelter or rescue so you and your pet can spread the love to less fortunate animals this Valentine’s Day!

4. Make it a Spa Day

Even Cupid likes a spa day! Treat yourself and your pet to relaxation this Valentine’s Day by setting aside time to unwind. You can take a soothing bubble bath while your dog chews on a new treat by the tub. Once you are toweled off and refreshed turn your attention to your four-legged Valentine with a warm bath of their own, a gentle brushing, and even a massage. Visit our blog article Pampering Your Pooch: How Massage Can Help Your Dog for an overview of how canine massage can benefit your pet. We even have some simple steps to get you started so you can safely show your dog how much you love them with an at-home massage!

5. Offer Extra Cuddles and Attention

Sometimes the simplest gestures are the most meaningful. One of the best ways to shower your dog or cat with love on Valentine’s Day (and always) is by spending extra time cuddling on the couch, giving belly rubs, or simply sitting quietly together. This tactile connection with your pet reinforces the love and trust you share and creates a comforting atmosphere that can help reduce stress for both of you. Truly, the greatest gift you can give your pets is time with you!

This Valentine’s Day, let your pet know that their unwavering love and companionship is something to be celebrated. Whether you spend the day out and about, or simply snuggling on the couch, every small gesture you make to your furry Valentine contributes to a stronger bond. Embrace the spirit of Valentine’s Day by making it a day of extra time, care, and heartfelt appreciation for the love and loyalty our pets show us every day!
